The Little Growers Club at Streatham Common Community Garden offers young people aged 7 to 11 the chance to grow and cook their own healthy food. Each Little Grower is given their own plot to look after between spring and autumn – they’ll be provided with seeds and tools, as well as lots of help and guidance from the SCCG team. Applications for our 2023 Little Growers have now closed. If you would like to apply for next year’s project, please check back early in 2024 to find out the details of how to register your interest and the relevant deadline.
We prioritise local families who don’t have a garden or large growing space at home. Those who are invited to join the Little Growers Club will be able to come to the garden every Sunday between April and the end of October (or as many Sundays as you are available). The community garden opens from 11am to 3pm on Sundays unless otherwise stated.
We have a range of online activity resources available that include how-to guides, recipes and cut-out and colour-in activities. These are free for all to download, even if you don’t live in Streatham! Perfect for wetter days and colder months. And if you like growing, cooking, and eating food, you’ll love the new book, Chews Your Own Tasty Adventure, which has been written by one of the creators of The Little Growers Club, Dr Sai Pathmanathan. This fun children’s book contains recipes from around the world. Each recipe uses six key ingredients and offers a chance to make use of that tasty produce grown at the garden!
The SCCG Little Growers project is funded by Higgidy until the end of 2023. Check out the photos of our Little Growers from 2021 and 2022 below.
