Annual Report and End of Year Accounts 2024

December 8, 2024 by Garden Account

This year has been full of growth, the odd challenge, and we couldn’t have done it without your support. The report showcases the progress we’ve made and highlights the impact of our work on the community.

Our AGM will be on Sunday 5th January at 12 noon and will last about an hour. It will be held in the Education Room at the Community Garden. We will use the meeting to discuss the annual report, to approve the full year accounts, elect trustees and to look at the year ahead. Those who pay a small membership fee to us and people who volunteer regularly (volunteering at least once per month or 10 times per year) qualify for membership and we welcome as many members as possible to come along on the day.

The AGM will be followed by Wassailing at 1.30pm with the hugely popular Brixton Tatterjacks! They will welcome in the New Year with dance and song around the orchards and the lovely Community Garden.

Applications now open for our Learner Plots scheme 2025

March 11, 2024 by Garden Account

Applications for the 2025 Learner Plots are now open! Please fill out the online form here by midnight on Friday 28 February 2025.
The right hand side of the community garden is divided into learner plots.  These give beginner gardeners the opportunity to manage their own plot of land whilst also contributing to the life of a productive community garden.  We also have a large raised bed which will also be used as a learner plot for those who find it easier to garden without bending down.

We look for local residents and community groups who are interested in planning and managing each plot each year, so look out for recruitment opportunities in March of each year.  Priority will be given to those without a garden, and groups (such as resident groups, schools or charities) who are planning to develop their own growing site or community garden.
In return for the use of the space, we request learners to attend the Sunday sessions regularly, and to engage with the life of the community garden, including attending open days and helping with the watering rota.

Applications now open for The Little Growers Club 2025

March 8, 2024 by Garden Account

Applications for The Little Growers Club 2025 is now open. Please fill in the application by midnight on Friday 28 February 2025. Click here to apply for The Little Growers Club

The Little Growers Club at Streatham Common Community Garden offers young people aged 6 to 9 the chance to grow and cook their own healthy food. Each Little Grower is given their own plot to look after between spring and autumn – they’ll be provided with seeds and tools, as well as lots of help and guidance from the SCCG team.

We prioritise local families who don’t have a garden or large growing space at home. Those who are invited to join the Little Growers Club will be able to come to the garden every Sunday between April and the end of October (or as many Sundays as you are available). Sessions last for an hour and run from 12pm to 1pm on Sundays unless otherwise stated.

Work with us: Community Gardener Role

December 9, 2023 by Garden Account

We’re hiring a community gardener and would love to hear from you.

The Community Gardener will run two of our exciting projects, the Learner Plotters’ project and the Little Growers’ project. The Learner Plotters’ project gives beginner gardeners the chance to learn growing skills by managing their own small plot of land. They can work at the garden on Wednesdays and Sundays, from 11am to 3pm. The Little Growers project is aimed at 6 to 9-year-olds, who come to the garden for an hour each Sunday with their adult companion, to grow their own healthy food in a fun atmosphere.

We are delighted to announce the return of Apple Day at Streatham Common Community Garden. Join us for a day of pressing apples and pears at our free community event – all welcome!
